The main finding of this report is that the Access data currently available to the HEA is sufficiently robust to be appropriate for use for the allocation of Access funding within the overall Recurrent Grant Allocation Model (RGAM).

A new unit that encourages students to explore options in further and higher education is being piloted in schools this Autumn. The unit is for Transition Year students and has been developed through a joint initiative by the HEA and NCCA, with advice from a working group of teachers, guidance counsellors and access officers. Following the pilot phase it is planned that the unit will be made available to all schools.

This autumn a new curriculum unit encouraging second level students to explore options in further and higher education is being launched nationally.
The unit has been developed through a joint initiative by the HEA and NCCA, with advice from a working group of teachers, guidance counsellors and access officers.

This plan is intended as a significant contribution to the national objective of achieving greater equality of access to and participation in higher education. It follows directly from the 2005-2007 Action Plan on Equity of Access to Higher Education and from the 2001 Report of the Action Group on Access to Third Level Education.
