Applying for a course
Studying in Northern Ireland and Abroad
Some students opt to study in Northern Ireland or further afield, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. In some cases, it may be possible to get a place on a course in a UK college more easily than in Ireland. And for students living in border counties, colleges in Northern Ireland may be closer and easier to get to. EducationUK is a comprehensive website, with a course/regions search facility, for people exploring the UK as an option for higher education. The site includes information on Northern Ireland colleges and courses. The applications agency for entry to colleges in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and Northern Ireland is UCAS. On the UCAS website you can search for courses, and colleges and apply online.
A small number of students choose to study in other European or US colleges, particularly at postgraduate level. For information on studying in the USA, see Educationusa.info. For other countries, the best starting source is the official government website on higher education in that country.
You can go to college in Ireland and still enjoy a period of study abroad. See our section on international study exchanges for more information.
