Student Life
What you can Expect
Life as a student can be described as exciting, sometimes pressurised, but enjoyable and memorable. Many students develop friendships during college that last a lifetime. The culture of learning and the pursuit of knowledge that is part and parcel of college life can produce a great "vibe" on-campus.
In general, students in college are expected to be independent learners, which means that you will need good study skills, including organising your time effectively. You will also need to make the most out of the library and other reference sources, and meet deadlines that have been set for submission of assignments and/or projects.
If you are having any learning or academic difficulties at college, support and advice is available, in general however you will have to take the first step in seeking help. This also applies to non-academic difficulties.
You can expect college to present you with numerous social, cultural and sporting opportunities: all will be revealed during the early weeks of your first term or semester in college. Students often discover a major new hobby or interest while they are at college and getting involved in extra-curricular activities provides opportunities to meet students from other courses and programmes. Getting involved in the work of the students' union is another activity that you may be interested in.
