Services for Students
College students have access to a range of services. Together, these services support the overall well-being of students, which in turn contributes to them meeting their academic potential in higher education. In general, you will find the following student services in college:
• Chaplaincy – for spiritual and personal support.
• Counselling Services – always a strictly confidential service for students experiencing emotional or psychological problems (e.g. stress, anxiety, depression).
• Health Service – free for registered students. Larger colleges have a dedicated health centre on-campus; smaller colleges have arrangements with local health professionals.
• Financial Assistance – emergency financial assistance, and longer-term support for students from low-income backgrounds.
• Access Office – supports the participation of low income, disabled, mature and ethnic minority students, from pre-entry stage through to completion of qualification.
• Disability Office – the Disability Act requires all public bodies to have a specific member of staff responsible for liaising with students with disabilities and arranging education-related supports.
• Careers Service – for advice on next steps, applying for jobs and linking with employers.
• Students' Union – student-focused and funded, and there to help you in whatever way possible.
Each college’s website will have details of local student services. In addition, many colleges produce a student handbook which outlines details of all the college's student services, including contact numbers and emails. Check the college’s website for the most recent version.
