. The MC for the event is Kevin Myers. Each of the five finalists will have a maximum of ten minutes to communicate why their research makes a difference. At the end of each presentation, an expert panel may ask two or three questions.

The presenters have two audiences to convince. The expert panel, comprising three members, and the audience, comprised mainly of second level students.

At the end of the event, there are two prizes of €2,500 sponsored by the Irish Independent. One is determined by the panel and the other by the second level students in the audience.
