Recognition of non-formal and informal learning (RNFIL)

Ireland is one of over twenty countries currently participating in an OECD study on the topic of the Recognition of Non-formal and Informal Learning (RNFIL).  The study is taking place from 2006 through 2008 and work in Ireland is being co-ordinated by the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland (NQAI).  A Country Background Report for Ireland was published by the NQAI in August 2007.

On 4-8 February 2008 a study visit to Ireland by a team from the OECD took place.  The objective of the visit was to examine and discuss RNFIL policy and practices in Ireland with policy makers, funding agencies, researchers, practitioners and users of RNFIL across all sectors, including representatives from the HEA. The OECD report on Ireland, which will comprise country-specific policy recommendations, will assist further work by a working group of the NQAI in developing the National Action Plan for the Recognition of Prior Learning in Ireland (RPL).
