What to Study and Where
Finding out More about Courses
The main source of information on higher education courses in Ireland is Qualifax, the National Learners' Database. You can search for different options in all colleges and there is also a lot of other useful information to help you find the best course for you.The institutes of technology have a website, Bluebrick, which helps you to search for part-time or flexible learning opportunities in the 14 institutes of technology around the country.
If you are at school, your guidance counsellor will be able to assist you in exploring course options; for adults, help is available from your local Adult Education Guidance Officer.
Each college also produces comprehensive information about the courses they offer. This is available on the college’s website and in the college prospectus. Each course in the prospectus includes a programme description, details of typical career opportunities, a section on course content, and contact details for further information. Do avail of the knowledge and advice of the contact people if you need more information— they will be delighted to help. The prospectus also includes information on student services and facilities. Most colleges offer their prospectus to download from their website, or you can email/phone the Admissions Office and they will send one in the post to you.
Colleges also run open days for potential new students. They are advertised on the college website and in education supplements in national newspapers and provide an opportunity to meet staff and students and look around the college campus.
