About the Survey

The Eurostudent Survey is a European-wide survey about the social, economic and living conditions of higher education students in EU states, covering the following topics:

  • Demographic profile (includes Age, Gender, Marital/Family status, socio-economic background, etc.)
  • Accommodation
  • Daily travel to college
  • Income (includes employment patterns, state subsidisation)
  • Expenditure
  • Well-being (includes financial well-being, workload, health)
  • Study Abroad

The survey is co-ordinated in Ireland by Insight Statistical Consulting on behalf of the Higher Education Authority.

How can I participate?

In November you will receive an email sent by your college to your college email address inviting you to participate by linking to a web survey.   A small number of students will also be sent a postal survey.  If you receive more than one invite please only complete the survey once.

Why it’s important to respond

To have a representative sample of students covering all colleges and student types it is important we receive a response from you.

Is it anonymous?

Yes, the survey is anonymous with only the answers to the questions being recorded.

Is there an incentive?

Yes, all students that complete the survey will have the opportunity to win a new Sony Vaio laptop.

Previous Eurostudent Surveys

The first Eurostudent Survey was in the year 2000, although the survey has its origins in earlier national surveys such as those undertaken by Deutsches Studentenwerk in Germany as early as 1951, and later the Observatoires de la Vie Etudiante in France.

For each round of the Eurostudent survey, two reports are produced: the Irish input into the European Report, and a separate Irish Report.
